Swimming & walking at the Babinda Boulders
How do you get to the Babinda Boulders?
The Babinda Boulders are less than an hour's drive from Cairns. From Townsville (Magnetic Island) it is a 3.5 hour drive. It is a nice stopover between Magnetic Island and Cairns. The Babinda Boulders are mainly visited by locals.

Swimming at the Babinda Boulders
There is a special day use area where you can swim safely in the wonderfully cool water. A place has been made to enter the water. There are also toilets and picnic areas available.

Hiking to Devils Pool and Boulders Gorge Lookout
From the day use area you can take a walk to Devils Pool and the Boulders Gorge Lookout. Both places are beautiful, but you are absolutely not allowed to swim there because of the dangerous water. The walk is 1.3 km long, passes two viewing platforms and you walk back the same path. Not only are the Boulders themselves impressive, but also the lush green surroundings and beautiful rainforest surrounding them.

Spotting a cassowary at Babinda Boulders
The chance to spot a cassowary in this area is a bonus. The Babinda Boulders is the territory of a cassowary that is regularly spotted here. At the Babinda Boulders you will find a free campsite: Boulders Free Campground. When we camped here, the cassowary suddenly walked onto the site. Later we heard that the cassowary is regularly seen here.
